I’ve always enjoyed viewing Paul Gauguin’s 1888 painting “Still Life with Three Puppies” (below right) which is part of the permanent collection at MoMA. So, should it be any surprise that when I saw this photo (below left) in a bin of old random snapshots at Hunt & Gather Antiques in Minneapolis, I made the visual association with Gauguin? There’s not much of a “still life” in the photo, but it’s got twice as many puppies!
